Giant Garden Sundial    (Analemmatic Sundial)   layout   £45

These sundials are great for gardens, patios, paved areas or any open space that would benefit from an interesting feature on the ground. The shadow required to tell the time is created by YOU!
A scale of hours is set in the central area of the sundial, standing on the appropriate month will cast the correct shadow to show the time on that day. Each sundial must be laid out for the latitude it is to be used in.
For the £45 fee I will layout the sundial as a dimensioned drawing with a detail of the layout of the central scale of hours, the hour points and how to draw an elipse on which the hours are placed. The sundial can be as large or as small as you wish. If a person is to act as the gnomon the sundial could be 3 to 6m across.
The hour marks may be created by stones set into the ground, small posts or even small beds of plants! The scale of hours is generally marked onto a series of stones or slabs which could be purpose made or simple garden centre products with the markings painted on.
The images below show some Analemmatic sundials found on the web.

An Analemma is a curve representing the angular offset of the Sun (or any celestial body) at the same time every day for a year when viewd from the same position on another celestial body (the earth). The resulting curve drawn by the Sun in this way shows on a flat surface as an elongated figure of eight.
