Mottos

It is very traditional to have a motto engraved on a sundial, many are in Latin and many of these are a little drab as they tend to remind you that time is moving on!

Feel free to make up your own, use Shakespeare, the bible or search the web for one that suits.

A few mottos are listed below;

Carpe Deum             -           Seize the day

It is later than you think
This is inscribed on a Sundial pedestal at Bateman, Rudyard Kiplings House in Kent

On this moment hangs Eternity

As a shadow such is life

Let others tell of storms and showers, I tell only of sunny hours

Time passes as a shadow

And now faith, hope and love abide, these 3; and the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13

Hora Quasi Umbra             -           time is but a shadow

Horam Quam Petis Redimite       -           make hay while the sun shines

Senza Palar Da Tutti Son Inteso, Senza Paleso Far Rumor L’ora
Without speaking I am understood by all, without a noise I reveal the hour

Let your light shine so that men may see your good works

Now is  yesterdays tomorrow

Nulla Dies Sine Linea
Live every day

Thy dial will show how thy precious minutes waste
Shakespeare

Omnia Fert Aetas
Time brings all things to pass
